Rekhta Foundation UK is a registered charity aimed at the preservation & promotion of languages, literature, and culture of South Asia with a particular focus on Urdu. The Foundation works with the following objectives:

Donald Peck divides his time between work for a number of charities and social enterprises in India and the UK and historical research. Donald holds a D.Phil from St Antony’s College, Oxford in 20th century Argentinian history. He is a finance professional who has lived and worked in both India and South America for many years. Since 1991, he has been closely associated with a number of the investments of CDC, the UK’s development-driven sovereign wealth fund, in India and other developing countries. He is also a co-founder of Lok, a multi-pronged social enterprise initiative in India. He is currently a trustee of IPPR, Organic Research Centre, and Think Ahead and chair of Foundation Rachel and Pamela Schiele, which is a conservation and farming research and education project in Argentina.
Sanjiv Saraf is the founder of Polyplex Corporation Limited, one of the world’s largest producer of PET films, as well as a renewable hydroelectric energy company, and India’s premier legal information provider called Manupatra.He founded Rekhta Foundation in 2012, a not-for-profit, social impact organisation, and a year later launched rekhta.org, the world’s largest repository of Urdu literature.
He is the author of ‘ Love Longing Loss in Urdu poetry’ and translated three books of Urdu poetry into English – Nawa-e-Sarosh, Golden Verses Golden Voices and Bahar-e-Nagma. An avid reader, Sanjiv Saraf remains a tireless revivalist and is leading Rekhta’s foray into preservation & promotion of languages and literature of the Indian subcontinent extending its chapters to other Indian languages.
He holds a B.Tech from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (1975-1980).
Huma Khalil is an author, translator, filmmaker, and the editor of two magazines, Bazm-e- Adab, an Urdu magazine promoting women writers, and Rekhta Rauzan, a quarterly magazine in Urdu and Devanagari script.
Her major literary works include ‘Many Summers Apart: Gems from contemporary Urdu literature and ‘The Allure Of Aligarh : A poetic journey into the University city ‘ as a tribute to her hometown. She is presently busy creating audio -visual content for the promotion of Urdu.
Ritu Kumar is an expert in the environmental services industry. Skilled in Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Awareness, Climate Change, and Policy Analysis. She worked with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation based out of Vienna, where she assisted developing country industry and governments on environmental policy, cleaner production and social improvements. Ritu is also the founder and trustee of a not for profit organisation, TERI-Europe, working on a number of climate change and corporate responsibility initiatives.
Ritu has a BA and MA in economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and an MSC in economics from the London School of Economics. She has specialised in Environmental Economics from Harvard School of International Studies and is a qualified social auditor. She is a Board member of the Global Climate Partnership Fund and has advised a number of companies on their sustainability strategies.
Jashn-e-Rekhta London is an immersive experience that combines a finely curated programme of artistic facets of Urdu culture & heritage. It celebrates the composite culture of South Asia through this unique language.
